Ukraine’s grain traders union, UGA, has raised its corn production forecast by 2.1 million metric tonnes to 38.9m tonnes. This also prompted a 2.7m tonnes rise in its corn export forecast, to 30.3m tonnes.
The union made no change to its 2020 wheat production forecast of 26.8m tonnes or its exports of 18m tonnes.
Meantime, Romania’s wheat crop production has been reduced by drought, with rains in recent weeks coming too late to save yields.
Yields fell from 4.8 tonnes per hectare in 2019 to 2.9 tonnes/ha in 2020, reported Ag Minister Adrian Oros. Romania is expected to harvest a 5.5 to 5.6m tonne wheat crop in 2020, which is around a 40% decline from 2019.
