Official Brazilian crop agency Conab increased its estimates for both soy and corn production in the 2020-21 season.
Conab raised soybean production estimates to 135.54m tonnes, up from last month’s estimate of 135.131m tonnes. The forecasted yield was raised from 3.513 tonnes per hectare in March to 3.523 tonnes per hectare this month.
Conab raised its forecast for corn output to 108.965m tonnes, an almost-1m-tonne increase from March’s 108.068m-tonne estimate. An upgraded estimate for the first-crop harvest, centred on Rio Grande do Sul, more than offset a slightly lower forecast for the safrinha crop.
The agency also increased the forecast for total corn area in Brazil by some 220,000 hectares to 19.717m hectares.
Unlike with soy and corn, Conab marginally reduced its forecasts for 2020-21 cotton production and area in Brazil to 2.493m tonnes and 1.413m hectares respectively.
