Warmer and wetter weather in the European Union in the last two weeks has prompted Refinitiv to keep its 2020-21 all-wheat production estimate for the bloc (plus the UK) unchanged at 145.8m tonnes.
The forecast comprises 137.5m tonnes of soft wheat, plus 8.3m tonnes of durum.
Refinitiv’s move leaves it more than upbeat than other commentators. French consultancy, Strategie Grains lowered its estimate for this year’s soft wheat harvest to 136.7m tonnes last week, while Coceral cut its forecast to 136.5m tonnes on Monday.
Refinitiv added that warmer weather was expected to last for the next few days, but that temperatures were expected to drop significantly towards the end of the month.
